This collaboration aims to protect critical maritime infrastructure and digital communications from evolving cyber threats, leveraging quantum tech

Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA), a premier institution for maritime education under AD Ports Group (ADX: ADPORTS), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ID Quantique (IDQ). This new partnership will explore how quantum-safe cybersecurity solutions can be used to protect the maritime sector.

Focus on Securing Maritime Infrastructure

The collaboration is being driven by Qinnovision’s Quantum Adoption Programme, to strengthen digital infrastructure within the maritime industry. The two organisations will collaborate to develop cybersecurity services tailored specifically for maritime operations and explore opportunities for training programmes in quantum-safe security.

Building Future-Proof Cyber Defenses

ID Quantique brings expertise in secure quantum communications and cryptography. Their technology could help create strong frameworks to protect sensitive data against modern cyber threats. The MoU also outlines plans to consider building quantum-safe digital infrastructure and secure Platforms as a Service (PaaS) for use in global shipping and port operations.

Dr. Yasser Al Wahedi, President at Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, said: “The advent of AI and quantum computing in the maritime industry highlights the importance of cybersecurity research. We are pleased to explore this collaboration with IDQ to address anticipated challenges with quantum computing tools.”

Grégoire Ribordy, CEO and co-founder of ID Quantique, said: “With increasing cybersecurity threats, the need for robust encryption is growing. We are proud to explore opportunities with ADMA to implement IDQ’s quantum-safe solutions and training in the Abu Dhabi maritime sector.”

Malak Trabelsi Loeb, CEO of Vernewell and Spokesperson for the Qinnovision Consortium, said: “Our goal is to drive real-world impact with quantum innovations in critical sectors like maritime. This exploratory collaboration aims to bridge academia, industry, and government to address urgent cybersecurity concerns.”

Supporting National and Global Security Goals

This agreement supports the UAE’s broader technology and cybersecurity strategies while also contributing to international maritime security. By adopting quantum-safe measures, ADMA and IDQ are taking a proactive step to protect critical maritime systems in an increasingly digital and threat-prone world.
