Masdar will utilise the tool to increase productivity, reduce downtime, and anticipate future failures.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, recognized as the UAE’s leading clean energy entity, has entered into a strategic partnership with Presight, a prominent big data analytics firm driven by generative artificial intelligence (AI). This collaboration aims to create an advanced asset management tool designed for Masdar’s global renewable energy projects.

Harnessing Data for Insights

Masdar’s renewable energy initiatives produce an immense volume of data, generating billions of data points daily from various equipment, including solar panels, inverters, and wind turbines. This extensive dataset can be meticulously analyzed to yield valuable insights, facilitating informed, data-driven decision-making processes.

Transitioning to Predictive Operations

The development of an AI-driven asset management tool reflects Masdar’s commitment to digitizing its global operations. This shift aims to transform its approach from reactive to predictive, enabling the analysis of data and operational trends to foresee potential issues, enhance efficiency, prevent failures, minimize downtime, and ultimately increase energy output.

Leading the Charge in Clean Energy Innovation

As a pioneer in the UAE’s clean energy sector, Masdar has consistently been at the forefront of innovation and advancement. Through its collaboration with Presight, the company seeks to harness AI technology, reinforcing its commitment to smarter energy supply solutions.

Masdar Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi said: “With our history of developing projects using cutting-edge clean energy technologies, it was a natural progression for Masdar to explore the potential for deploying AI across energy systems to enhance efficiency and deliver data-driven decision-making. The integration between AI and energy is a game-changing economic opportunity that will enable us to build a bridge to a low-carbon, high-growth future. We are pleased to announce this agreement between two UAE-based pioneers that will help to achieve this goal.”

Thomas Pramotedham, CEO of Presight, said: “Clean energy has several specific operational needs, from managing shifting supply throughout the day to efficiently merging with other forms of energy in the grid. As a global clean energy leader, Masdar generates billions of data points across its extensive portfolio. This partnership therefore represents a unique opportunity to develop a bespoke tool that consolidates all that information, uncovers hidden insights and takes action to improve efficiency, predict maintenance needs, and ultimately increase the supply of renewable energy. This will be transformational for the sector, and so I’m looking forward to seeing this collaboration progress.”

Role of AI in Energy

AI is anticipated to play a crucial role in the energy landscape by enhancing efficiency and optimizing operational practices through predictive analytics. This technology can facilitate the seamless integration of renewable energy with other energy sources, bolstering the resilience of energy grids.

Vision for the Future

The transformative potential of AI in the energy transition is profound, with projections suggesting it could contribute an impressive $7 trillion to global GDP over the next decade. AI holds the promise of accelerating progress by maximizing energy efficiency and reducing emissions on a large scale.

Commitment to Sustainability

Since its founding in 2006, Masdar has been instrumental in advancing the UAE’s vision of becoming a global leader in sustainability and climate action. The company has engaged in the development and partnership of projects across over 40 countries, intending to expand its renewable energy capacity to 100 GW by 2030 and establish itself as a key player in green hydrogen production by the same deadline.
