Tunisia and Saudi Arabia have formalised a new phase of bilateral cooperation with the signing of five agreements and memorandums of understanding covering multiple strategic sectors. According to Tunisian state media, the signed documents span areas such as customs administration, mining, postal services and media collaboration, reflecting the expanding scope of relations between the two nations.

Joint Committee Convenes in Riyadh for Twelfth Session

The agreements were concluded during the twelfth session of the Tunisian-Saudi Joint Committee, which commenced on Sunday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The two-day session brought together senior officials from both countries to review existing partnerships and explore new avenues for cooperation, as reported by Tunis Afrique Presse.

Customs and Postal Cooperation Take Centre Stage

Among the key outcomes of the meeting was an agreement focused on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters, aimed at enhancing coordination and efficiency between the two administrations. In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed to strengthen collaboration in the postal sector, paving the way for improved service exchange and technical cooperation.

Mining Sector Collaboration Strengthened

The two countries also deepened their partnership in the mining sector through a memorandum of understanding between Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources. This agreement is expected to promote knowledge sharing, investment opportunities and joint initiatives in mineral exploration and development.

Media and News Exchange Agreements Finalised

Media cooperation formed another important pillar of the discussions, with a memorandum signed between Tunisia’s national radio and television institutions and the Saudi Broadcasting Authority to enhance collaboration in broadcasting. Additionally, an executive programme was agreed upon to facilitate cooperation and news exchange between Tunis Afrique Presse and the Saudi Press Agency.

Officials Highlight Progress in Bilateral Relations

On the sidelines of the session, Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Abdelhafidh described the meeting as a significant milestone in reinforcing the legal and institutional framework governing Tunisian-Saudi relations. He noted that the agreements reflect a shared commitment to deepening cooperation and advancing mutual interests across diverse sectors.
