After a successful drilling campaign, the company secures additional land in the strategically important Central Andaman Block, opening a path for the development plan.

Mubadala Energy, an international energy company headquartered in Abu Dhabi, has announced two pivotal achievements in its exploration activities in the Andaman region. These milestones mark a significant advancement in the company’s strategic growth initiatives.

Award of Central Andaman Licence

Mubadala Energy, in collaboration with Harbour Energy, has secured the Central Andaman licence from MIGAS, the Indonesian oil and gas regulatory body. In this partnership, Harbour Energy holds a 60% operating interest, while Mubadala Energy controls the remaining 40%. This acquisition, part of the recent Indonesian licensing round, further reinforces Mubadala’s expansion strategy in the Andaman Sea and enhances the potential for future discoveries in this promising basin.

Successful Completion of South Andaman Drilling Campaign

In a related development, Mubadala Energy has completed its South Andaman drilling campaign, which focused on the appraisal of the Layaran discovery. The campaign, which included the Layaran-1, Tangkulo-1, Layaran-2, and Layaran-2ST1 wells, showcased the significant multi-trillion cubic feet (TCF) potential of the Andaman Sea basin. Advanced deep-water technology and state-of-the-art equipment were employed to ensure a safe and efficient drilling process, underscoring the company’s commitment to operational excellence. Commenting on the latest development, Adnan Bu Fateem, Chief Operating Officer, Mubadala Energy, said: “The successful bidding for the Central Andaman block is an important strategic development that will unlock further potential opportunities. Capitalising on our operational capabilities and deep understanding of the basin we are well positioned to realize the potential of South and Central Andaman and look forward to working with our partner and government stakeholders to develop these projects.”

Abdulla Bu Ali, President Director, Indonesia, Mubadala Energy, added: “We are delighted to have concluded this drilling campaign successfully while maintaining safe operations. The results are not only a win for our team, but also an important milestone for our company that will support Indonesia’s energy transition and energy security priorities.”

Future Plans and Regional Impact

The extensive drilling activities in South Andaman and Andaman II have provided Mubadala Energy and its partners with critical data, confirming the presence of substantial discovered resources. These findings have the potential to play a key role in the energy sector of Indonesia and the broader Southeast Asian region. Mubadala Energy is now actively working on strategies to accelerate the development of these resources and bring them into production, further solidifying its position in the regional energy landscape.
