Adyen, a leading global financial technology platform, has announced a leadership change in its UAE region. Daumantas Grigaravicius will take on the role of Head of the Middle East, overseeing commercial management and strategic planning. He will replace Sander Maertens, who is transitioning to a new global commercial position at Adyen.
Daumantas Grigaravicius: A Seasoned Fintech Expert
Grigaravicius brings over 13 years of extensive experience within the fintech industry to his new position. His career began in the UK, where he held various commercial roles in the payments sector. His leadership journey continued across several countries, including the Netherlands, Sweden, Greece, and Bulgaria. In 2018, he moved to the UAE, where he became the Country Manager for Ebury, a subsidiary of Banco Santander. During his tenure, he played a key role in securing the first-ever Category 3D license under the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA). More recently, Grigaravicius served as General Manager Middle East at Triple-A, a Series A startup supported by Sequoia and Shorooq Partners, where he guided clients in adopting digital currency payments.
“I’m excited to step into the role of Head of Middle East. With the solid foundation built by Sander and the incredible team here, we’re poised to deepen our commitment to UAE businesses, helping them grow through innovative and seamless payment solutions locally and globally,” said Daumantas Grigaravicius.
Sander Maertens' New Role as SVP Global Commerce
Sander Maertens, who has served Adyen for 15 years, will now focus on global commercial operations as the new Senior Vice President of Global Commerce. In this role, Maertens will spearhead Adyen’s growth in key industries such as entertainment, hospitality, and travel. Maertens’ contributions have been instrumental in establishing Adyen’s presence in Latin America and the Middle East, and he will continue to drive the company's global commercial success from his new position.
“It’s a proud moment to bid farewell to my current role after opening this office and building a strong local foundation,” said Maertens. “The goal that brought me here, to extend Adyen’s reach and capacity to solve complex problems for our customers in the region, has been realized, and I’m excited to start a new chapter with Adyen globally.”
