This strategic move strengthens Ford's presence in the Middle East, enhancing parts availability and customer service across the region.

Dubai South, the region's largest urban master development focused on aviation, logistics, and real estate, has launched a state-of-the-art Parts Distribution Centre (PDC) for Ford. This facility, developed in collaboration with DB Schenker, a global logistics leader, spans 42,000 square meters and is poised to revolutionize the logistics landscape with its cutting-edge design and advanced technological capabilities.

High-Profile Inauguration Event

The grand opening of the PDC was marked by the presence of notable figures, including HE Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South; Kay Hart, President of Ford’s International Markets Group; Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East; and Ako Djaf, VP of Contract Logistics and SCM for DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa. These distinguished attendees underscored the significance of this milestone in regional logistics and automotive distribution.

Innovative Storage and Handling Systems

The facility boasts cutting-edge Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and advanced racking systems designed to enhance efficiency and maximize storage capacity. Features include Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) systems, Multi-Tier Mezzanines (MTM), Deep Selective Racking (DSR), and Cantilever Racking (CR). With 20 container docks—equally divided for inbound and outbound operations—the centre facilitates simultaneous activities, accelerating delivery times and streamlining order processing.

“We are pleased to welcome Ford to Dubai South with the launch of its new facility. With the expertise and capabilities of DB Schenker, we are confident that this collaboration will bolster Ford’s expansion endeavours while delivering premium services to its customers across the region. At Dubai South, our mission is to support the government’s economic diversification plans through the comprehensive services and solutions we offer to both local and international companies, underpinned by our state-of-the-art infrastructure. We remain steadfast in our commitment to positioning Dubai as one of the world’s leading logistics hubs,” said Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District, Dubai South.

Ako Djaf, VP of Contract Logistics and SCM of DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa, said, “At DB Schenker, we take immense pride in supporting Ford’s ambitious vision for operational excellence in the Middle East. The new Parts Distribution Center is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation, designed to streamline supply chain processes, enhance customer satisfaction, and contribute to sustainability goals. By leveraging our global expertise and advanced logistics solutions, we are excited to play a pivotal role in Ford’s journey to deliver unparalleled service to its customers across the region.”

Advanced Technology for Seamless Operations

DB Schenker has integrated SAP S/4HANA warehouse management software into the PDC’s operations, enabling paperless picking through barcode scanning for unparalleled accuracy and speed. A dedicated Vehicle Off Road (VOR) team prioritizes urgent parts to ensure minimal delays, significantly enhancing customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

“The new PDC will enable us to create a more streamlined and efficient process that enhances parts availability, optimizes inventory management, and elevates customer service,” said Ravi Ravichandran, President, Ford Middle East. “By unlocking these operational efficiencies, we are delivering on our commitment to improve service and delivery times in the region, and we are thrilled to see this latest Ford project in Dubai come to fruition.”

Strategic Location for Regional Connectivity

Strategically positioned within Dubai South, the PDC consolidates Ford’s storage and distribution into a single, technologically advanced hub. This centralized approach serves key markets across the GCC and Sub-Saharan Africa, increasing capacity by 20% compared to its predecessor while significantly improving inventory management and overall efficiency.

Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is at the core of the PDC’s design. The facility plans to install a 400kW solar panel system by late 2025, projected to reduce energy consumption by 35% and cut carbon emissions by 290 tons annually. Additionally, eco-friendly waste management practices, including recycling, ensure the centre operates with minimal environmental impact.

Dubai South: A Hub of Innovation

Dubai South’s Logistics District continues to lead the way in logistics innovation, offering unparalleled access to key infrastructure. With seamless connectivity to Jebel Ali Port via a bonded logistics corridor, access to Al Maktoum International Airport’s cargo terminals, and specialized zones like EZDubai for e-commerce and the Contract Logistics Zone, the district is a hub of excellence for global trade and supply chain operations.
