This collaboration aims to boost efficiency and support the steel industry by leveraging Hafeet Rail's network connecting ports and industrial zones

Hafeet Rail, the developer of the cross-border railway connecting Oman and the UAE, has entered into a strategic agreement with Itaminas Comércio De Minérios S.A., a top iron ore producer based in Brazil.

Advancing a Unified and Sustainable Logistics Ecosystem

This partnership marks a significant step toward establishing a connected and sustainable logistics network. By utilizing the Hafeet Rail corridor, the goal is to link important industrial zones and ports, streamline transportation, and strengthen the iron ore and steel industries in both Oman and the UAE.

Sohar Port at the Heart of the Supply Chain Vision

A key focus of the collaboration is to create a dependable and high-performance supply chain. Hafeet Rail’s infrastructure will play a central role, especially through its integration with Sohar Port. The port’s advanced facilities, planned expansions, and direct rail access make it a strategic hub for importing and processing iron ore.

Construction Progress in Oman and the UAE

Work on the Hafeet Rail project is moving forward in both countries. Ground preparation and railbed development are ongoing, while significant progress is being made on structural elements like bridges and tunnels. These developments are laying the foundation for smooth and efficient cross-border rail connectivity.

Strong Coordination Driving Project Success

The project's momentum is supported by close collaboration between Hafeet Rail, stakeholders, and government authorities. This unified approach is crucial to ensuring that the project achieves its strategic objectives and delivers lasting regional benefits.

Itaminas' Growth Plans and Middle East Ambitions

Itaminas is known for producing high-grade iron ore, with an annual capacity of 6.5 million tons and permits in place to expand to 15.5 million tons. The company intends to export a substantial portion of this output to the Middle East through Brazil’s Port of Sudeste. It also aims to establish parts of its value chain in the GCC, leveraging the region’s infrastructure, energy assets, and geographic advantages.

Strengthening Regional Integration and Industrial Potential

This partnership not only deepens economic ties between Oman and the UAE but also highlights the potential of Hafeet Rail’s network to support future industrial developments. The railway will serve as a vital logistics corridor connecting ports to inland facilities, offering regional and international steel manufacturers scalable, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions.
