This enhanced partnership provides greater flexibility and convenience for passengers flying between their extensive networks

During the prestigious 81st Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) held in New Delhi, Turkish Airlines and Icelandair revealed a significant development in their relationship—a broader codeshare partnership. This move represents a strategic milestone in bridging key geographic regions located at the intersection of continents and oceans.

Strengthening an Evolving Alliance

Turkish Airlines and Icelandair first joined forces in June 2023 through a codeshare agreement aimed at offering travellers more flexible and convenient connections. Building on this collaborative foundation, Icelandair is now set to launch direct flights between Reykjavík and Istanbul beginning September 5, 2025. These flights, scheduled to run twice a week during the winter season, will be part of the expanded codeshare arrangement, enabling Turkish Airlines to include these routes in its booking system.

Expanding Horizons Across Continents

As part of the reciprocal arrangement, Icelandair will add its marketing code to a range of Turkish Airlines’ international flights departing from Istanbul. This includes routes that span across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The new arrangement creates an extensive travel web, linking Icelandair’s robust transatlantic presence with Turkish Airlines’ vast intercontinental network.

Commenting on the expansion of the partnership, Turkish Airlines CEO, Mr. Bilal Ekşi stated: “This cooperation goes beyond a commercial partnership. It represents a strategic alignment between two trusted carriers. By launching direct flights between Reykjavik and Istanbul and integrating our networks, we are opening the door to new traffic flows and connectivity options between Iceland, Türkiye and beyond.”

Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair CEO, also commented: “Building on the partnership with Turkish Airlines will offer travellers even greater connectivity and seamless travel options across our combined networks. The expansion of our codeshare partnership to multiple destinations in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, reflects our shared commitment to service excellence, building a stronger global network and unlocking new opportunities for growth.”

Driving Tourism and Economic Synergy

This enhanced partnership is anticipated to foster stronger tourism and commercial ties between Türkiye and Iceland. Additionally, it strengthens Istanbul’s role as a critical aviation hub, connecting travellers from North America and Northern Europe with destinations across Asia and Africa. The broader collaboration not only supports the airlines’ growth ambitions but also reinforces global connectivity across some of the world’s most dynamic travel corridors.
