Turkcell, a leading telecommunications company, is unveiling its eco-friendly initiatives with new sustainable practices to reduce its environmental footprint.

Turkcell Group, the prominent mobile operator in Turkey, has unveiled ambitious plans to invest approximately $240 million in eco-friendly energy projects. This initiative includes the establishment of new solar power facilities with a combined capacity of 300 megawatts within the next three years. However, Turkcell's vision extends well beyond the horizon of 2025.

The company has set a bold target: "We aspire to meet 100% of our energy needs from renewable sources by the year 2030." Turkcell highlights its recent strides in adopting innovative solutions, such as the integration of solar energy into its data centres and office spaces, the acquisition of the Karadağ Wind Power Plant in 2021 (boasting an 18 MW installed capacity), and the integration of solar panels into approximately 735 base stations. These initiatives are anticipated to account for roughly 65% of Turkcell's power consumption deriving from renewable energy sources by 2026. Facilitating these efforts is the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation, a state-owned entity, and regional electricity distributors. They have granted Turkcell a capacity permit for 213 megawatts, with ongoing efforts to secure additional capacity permits.

As of the second quarter of 2022, Turkcell's mobile business commanded a significant market share of 41.3%, surpassing Vodafone at 30.4% and TT Mobil at 28.3%, according to Statista. Turkcell's statistics indicate a subscriber base of 42 million encompassing fixed and mobile services in Q2 2023, with the mobile subscriber count reaching 37.6 million in the same quarter.
