Nokia has partnered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to launch the country’s first-ever 5G-Advanced Innovation Lab. This state-of-the-art facility will be based at Nokia’s headquarters in Pakistan and aims to enhance the nation’s 5G landscape. The initiative was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by Mohamed Samir, Vice President of Nokia Mobile Networks for the Middle East, and Brig. Amer Shehzad, PTA’s Director General for Wireless Licensing.
Empowering Research and Development
The 5G-Advanced Innovation Lab will function as a cutting-edge research and development center, offering universities, startups, and enterprises access to a private wireless network equipped with the latest technology. This facility will enable stakeholders to experiment with and implement advanced 5G applications tailored to Pakistan’s growing broadband market. Additionally, the lab will play a crucial role in fostering artificial intelligence (AI) development by utilizing local datasets and content to support indigenous innovation.
Driving Digital Transformation Across Industries
Beyond research, the lab will serve as a driving force for digital transformation in critical industries such as manufacturing, logistics, smart cities, healthcare, and renewable energy. By facilitating Industry 5.0 simulations, the facility will help businesses explore real-world applications of next-generation connectivity. Nokia will also introduce specialized training programs focused on 5G technology, health & safety (HSE), and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) best practices. Moreover, Nokia Bell Labs will work closely with PTA to strengthen regulatory expertise through targeted training and certification initiatives.
Paving the Way for a Digital Future
The launch of the 5G-Advanced Innovation Lab marks a significant step in Pakistan’s journey toward a technologically advanced economy. By fostering collaboration between academic institutions, businesses, and regulatory bodies, this initiative is poised to accelerate the adoption of 5G and solidify Pakistan’s position as a leader in digital innovation.
