With this announcement, EDGNEX Data Centres by DAMAC is bolstering digital infrastructure and assisting the Southeast Asian increasing need for trailblazing data solutions.

EDGNEX Data Centres by DAMAC, a global company providing digital infrastructure and part of the DAMAC Group, announced their investment in Indonesia. They will build a state-of-the-art data centre in Jakarta. The announcement came on May 16, 2024, at the Indonesia Cloud & Datacentre Convention. This investment marks a significant step for EDGNEX. The first phase of construction is expected to be finished by the fourth quarter of 2025. This new data centre will support the growing digital economy and startup scene in Indonesia, Southeast Asia's fastest-growing economy.

Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia, saw a 5% year-on-year growth rate between January and March 2023. Jakarta is currently preparing to expand its data centre capacity to 1GW. To keep up with this growth, more colocation data centres are needed. These centres should meet sustainable Tier III standards and offer high uptime and reliability to handle the rising demand for internet usage. EDGNEX is addressing this need by providing a foundation for innovation. They are disrupting the data centre market by offering advanced technology to meet the increasing demand from Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) and deployments of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Hussain Sajwani, Founder and Chairman of the DAMAC Group, commented, “EDGNEX identifies and invests in present and next-generation digital hubs. The government’s robust digitalisation efforts, high internet penetration and a tech-savvy, youthful demographic, necessitate advanced infrastructure to support the burgeoning digital economy. With this announcement we are pleased to support the government’s efforts and to bring our expertise in setting new standards for data centres in Southeast Asia, catalysing further technological innovation and growth across the region.”

The new data centre is ideally situated in MT Haryono, Jakarta, only three kilometres from the most significant internet exchange point in central Jakarta, which is part of one of the most networked data centre clusters. With dual road access and good fibre optic connectivity, this facility will be able to meet changing customer expectations with greater performance and increased service reliability.

Danish Nayar, SVP of Investments and Acquisitions, DAMAC Capital, added: “We are excited by the growth opportunities in Jakarta. Our new facility in downtown Jakarta will address the growing demand for Cloud Service Providers, Edge Nodes, and potential Artificial Intelligence deployments. We are also investing in a similar format across SEA and globally.”
