Apple ramps up its American Manufacturing Program and expands its domestic supply chain and advanced manufacturing

Apple has unveiled a transformative $100 billion addition to its U.S. investment portfolio, taking its total planned commitment to an extraordinary $600 billion over the next four years. This strategic move marks a decisive acceleration in the company’s efforts to strengthen domestic production capabilities and expand its technological footprint. At the heart of this initiative is the newly launched American Manufacturing Program (AMP), a bold endeavour aimed at bringing more of Apple’s advanced manufacturing and critical supply chain components to U.S. soil.

“Today, we’re proud to increase our investments across the United States to $600 billion over four years and launch our new American Manufacturing Program,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “This includes new and expanded work with 10 companies across America. They produce components that are used in Apple products sold all over the world, and we’re grateful to the President for his support.”

Building a Competitive Manufacturing Base

The AMP is designed not only to deepen Apple’s domestic investments but also to incentivize global manufacturing leaders to establish or expand their U.S. operations. By drawing more component production to the United States, Apple aims to ensure that its American facilities are integral to the global supply chain. Already, roughly two-thirds of all U.S.-made Apple components are shipped internationally, reinforcing America’s role as a high-value exporter in advanced technology manufacturing.

Strengthening the National Supplier Network

Apple’s influence extends across all 50 states, with partnerships involving thousands of suppliers and more than 450,000 supplier and partner jobs. This robust ecosystem is poised for further expansion, as Apple plans to create 20,000 additional U.S. jobs over the next four years. These positions will predominantly focus on high-value areas such as research and development, silicon engineering, software innovation, and artificial intelligence, underscoring Apple’s commitment to anchoring its most critical capabilities domestically.

Expanding High-Precision Glass Production

A major highlight of the AMP is Apple’s expanded partnership with Corning, the global leader in high-precision glass manufacturing. This collaboration will result in the world’s largest and most advanced smartphone glass production line, situated in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Soon, every iPhone and Apple Watch sold worldwide will feature Kentucky-made cover glass. In addition, the two companies will establish the Apple-Corning Innovation Center in Kentucky, setting a new benchmark for material innovation and manufacturing excellence.

Advancing Optical Technology with Coherent

In parallel, Apple has deepened its collaboration with Coherent, a trusted partner specializing in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), the core technology behind Face ID and other sophisticated optical features. This production, carried out at Coherent’s Sherman, Texas, facility, reinforces Apple’s strategy of maintaining tight control over critical component manufacturing while fostering technological innovation on U.S. soil.

Creating a Domestic Silicon Powerhouse

Apple’s vision extends to building a fully integrated silicon supply chain within the United States, partnering with leaders across every stage of semiconductor production. This network is on track to manufacture over 19 billion chips for Apple products in 2025. Key to this effort is TSMC’s state-of-the-art Arizona facility, where Apple is the first and largest customer. Here, tens of millions of chips are being produced using one of the most advanced process technologies available in America, cementing Apple’s role as a catalyst for the U.S. semiconductor industry’s growth.
