Trinasolar achieved "zero-carbon" manufacturing and significant social impact through community investment and green development

Trinasolar, a global frontrunner in smart photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage technologies, has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting major strides in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. The report outlines the company’s advancements across innovation, sustainable production, supply chain responsibility, community engagement, and corporate oversight.

Innovation with Purpose in Clean Energy Development

Beyond leading in solar and energy storage technologies, Trinasolar positions sustainability at the core of its business strategy. The 2024 report underlines how the company continues to embrace innovation while actively managing risks and seizing new opportunities to advance global sustainability goals.

Designing Solutions for Every Environment

This year, Trinasolar rolled out tailored solutions designed to operate efficiently in the most demanding environments, from arid deserts and humid coastal areas to high-wind and extreme-weather zones. These projects not only deliver consistent performance but also integrate harmoniously into local ecosystems such as farmlands and fisheries, creating a balance between environmental conservation and economic viability.

A Global Impact Through Scaled Deployment

By the end of 2024, Trinasolar had shipped more than 260 gigawatts (GW) of PV modules worldwide. These deployments collectively reduced carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions by roughly 349.95 million tonnes, comparable to planting 19.1 billion trees. This milestone reinforces Trinasolar’s commitment to powering the global energy transition and shaping a more sustainable world.

Driving Sustainable Manufacturing Forward

Trinasolar solidified its position as a champion of responsible production by earning several ESG certifications, including a BBB rating from MSCI, an A rating from Wind ESG, and a “2” rating from Sustainable Fitch. Its overarching sustainability strategy, known as the “SOLAR” philosophy, is embedded across all operations and is delivering measurable results in emissions, resource use, and circular practices.

Significant Environmental Achievements in 2024

This year, the company achieved a 64% increase in on-site solar energy generation, reaching 223,794 MWh. Twelve of its products earned carbon footprint certifications from bodies such as UL, EPD International, and Certisolis. Facilities in Yancheng Dafeng and Yiwu were honoured for their sustainability, earning “Zero Carbon,” “Zero Waste Landfill,” and four-star “Zero Carbon” factory certifications. Moreover, Trinasolar significantly reduced its greenhouse gas emissions intensity, down 36.44% for solar cells and 65.55% for modules compared to 2020—and achieved water consumption reductions of 86.85% and 67.68%, respectively. It also pioneered the world’s first fully recycled PV module and reused over 2,200 tons of packaging materials.

Leadership Commitment to Green Values

Chairman and CEO Gao Jifan reaffirmed the company's dedication to sustainable growth, stating that green development is a fundamental value at Trinasolar. He emphasized the company's focus on offering eco-friendly energy products and addressing climate change across its entire operational footprint.

Enhancing Supply Chain Transparency Through Technology

In 2024, Trinasolar elevated its supply chain governance by using digital platforms such as its Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) system and big data analytics. These tools helped map supplier networks and launch a digital ESG performance framework that supports deeper insights into carbon emissions, critical raw materials, and conflict minerals.

Progress in Supply Chain Ethics and Certifications

The company's push for ethical sourcing led to a rise in its supplier CSR Code of Conduct compliance, increasing from 95.67% to 98.41%. Trinasolar also achieved key certifications, including SA8000 for social accountability, a TÜV Rheinland AA rating for full-chain traceability, and a Silver Certification under the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) ESG Standard at two major manufacturing locations. It aims to achieve full traceability for all critical raw materials within three years.

Investing in Communities and Workforce Well-being

Trinasolar invested around USD 2.2 million in community initiatives and charitable causes in 2024, reflecting its dedication to social responsibility and local development. Internally, it raised spending on occupational health and safety by 34%, ensuring a safer and more supportive workplace.

Global Academic Partnerships to Drive Future Innovation

The company also strengthened its ties with global academic institutions, fostering research and innovation through collaborations with Fudan University, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, A*STAR Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Centro Universitário Facens.

Charting the Path Ahead

Trinasolar’s 2024 Sustainability Report marks another milestone in its journey toward responsible growth. With a firm commitment to innovation, transparency, and collaboration, the company pledges to keep advancing sustainable energy solutions and contributing to a more inclusive, low-carbon future.
