ADNEC Group, a prominent global player in asset management, exhibitions, and events, has signed a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Positive Zero, the leading provider of decarbonization and energy transition solutions in the Middle East. This partnership will see the installation of a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi.
Agreement Details and Signing Ceremony
The PPA was formalized during the World Future Energy Summit held at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. The agreement was signed by Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group, and Mohammed Abdulghaffar Hussain, Chairman of Positive Zero. The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from both organizations, marking a milestone in their collaboration.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group, said: “ADNEC Group’s agreement with Positive Zero exemplifies our commitment to sustainability. By integrating clean energy into our operations, we are setting new benchmarks for the industry while aligning with our sustainability endeavours and the broader UAE vision and ambitions. This agreement reinforces our commitment to achieving Net Zero and aligns with our Carbon Transition Plans.”
Mohammed Abdulghaffar Hussain, Chairman of Positive Zero, said: “We are honoured to have been selected by the team at ADNEC, one of the world’s most recognizable conference centres, and one that hosts our industry’s most renowned events, namely WFES and ADIPEC. At Positive Zero, we help businesses decarbonize through clean and efficient energy solutions that transform how they generate, manage and consume power. By supporting ADNEC Group’s Carbon Transition Plans, we are collectively accelerating the UAE’s energy transition ambitions.”
Scope of the Solar PV Project
The project, managed by Positive Zero’s Generation arm, SirajPower, will involve the installation of a 5 Mega-Watt Peak (MWp) Solar PV system. Spanning 21,620 square meters of roof space at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, the system is expected to meet 30% of the centre’s annual electricity needs. With an operational target set for the end of the year, the system will also contribute to reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 6,000 metric tonnes annually—equivalent to powering 1,250 homes for one year.
ADNEC Group's Commitment to Sustainability
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, ADNEC Group has set ambitious goals to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. This effort is aligned with the organization’s comprehensive Net Zero Transition Plan, which incorporates advanced technologies and innovative practices across all operations. ADNEC Group has already made significant strides in optimizing energy efficiency and minimizing electricity consumption.
Strengthening ADNEC Group’s Leadership in Sustainable Event Management
This solar energy project underscores ADNEC Group’s leadership in sustainable event management, contributing to a substantial reduction in the environmental impact of exhibitions and events hosted at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. By incorporating solar energy into its operations, ADNEC Group continues to play a key role in advancing the UAE’s clean energy transition and supporting national sustainability objectives.
