Abu Dhabi came in fourth for remote workers

Dubai has secured its position as the world's premier city for remote workers, clinching the top spot on the 2023 Executive Nomad Index, compiled annually by property consultancy Savills. This marks the first time Abu Dhabi has entered the coveted top 20 list, securing an impressive fourth place. The index evaluates global cities for their suitability for long-term remote work, considering factors such as internet speed, quality of life, climate, air connectivity, and prime rents. Dubai emerged as the leader, boasting exceptional connectivity through Dubai International Airport, a high quality of life, and robust mobile connectivity. The city's prime residential market further contributed to its top ranking. Abu Dhabi, often compared to Dubai, earned its place on the list due to substantial investments in leisure and entertainment, offering a comparable lifestyle. Both cities provide the unique advantage of city living juxtaposed with beautiful beaches, enhancing overall quality of life.

Notably, Dubai's ascent to the top spot this year is attributed to its rapidly growing FinTech and financial services sectors, coupled with a tax-free environment and an appealing quality of life. Executive nomads, predominantly Dual-Income, No Kids (Dinkies), favour high-rise residences in Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina, maximizing proximity to key business hubs and amenities. The city's co-working spaces are thriving, with occupancy rates close to 100%, solidifying Dubai's standing as a top destination for executive nomads. The index encompasses destinations with digital nomad visa programs or equivalents, or those within large economic blocs allowing free movement of people. Prerequisites include a favourable climate, high quality of life, and established prime residential markets. Dubai excelled in both air and internet connectivity, boasting the world's busiest international airport and the UAE's status as home to the fastest mobile speeds.

Abu Dhabi's debut on the list is attributed to its increasing global outlook, marked by attractions such as Yas Island and Saadiyat Island, housing cultural landmarks like the Louvre and the upcoming Guggenheim. The emirate is gaining popularity among Northern European executive nomads, offering a remote-working visa and golden visas for long-term commitments, particularly in creative industries, financial services, and startups. The city's Free Zones, providing incentives to businesses, enhance its appeal to corporate entities. The UAE's one-year residency permit for remote workers, along with world-class healthcare and a diverse range of indoor leisure and entertainment options, has been a significant draw. Abu Dhabi's growing demand for Grade-A office space in the Central Business District underscores its rising prominence as a hub for remote work.
