Jordan has successfully concluded a year-long endeavour to establish its inaugural industrial city fueled by natural gas, according to a statement by a Jordanian official.
Al-Quwayrah Industrial City, situated in the southern region of Aqaba, is on track to be officially inaugurated in the coming months, as confirmed by Mamoun Al-Qasoos, the CEO of Aqaba International Industrial City. Al-Qasoos made this announcement during a seminar held in Aqaba on Wednesday.
During the seminar, Al-Qasoos unveiled that the expansive new industrial zone, spanning approximately 3 square kilometres, has reached full completion, with numerous companies having already established their operations within the area. “Al-Quwayrah Industrial City will be commissioned within the next few months…it is Jordan’s first industrial zone to be supplied by gas for industrial purposes,” he said in his comments. Furthermore, he addressed the prominent challenges encountered by industries in Aqaba, which happens to be Jordan's sole coastal city. Notably, he highlighted the persistent rise in energy expenses and emphasized the need to shift towards greater reliance on natural gas to enhance energy efficiency.
