This survey provides valuable insights into what professionals value most in their leaders and the essential skills required to drive success and motivation in the workplace.

As businesses wrap up a busy fourth quarter and prepare for the year ahead, effective leadership remains crucial for strategic planning. Bayt.com's poll gathered responses from professionals across the MENA region, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Morocco, among others. The findings underscore the growing importance of key leadership traits such as adaptability, emotional intelligence, and communication in today's workplace.

Top Leadership Traits for Success

The survey revealed several important leadership traits and challenges that define the modern workplace. A significant 85.4% of respondents highlighted the ability of leaders to inspire and motivate their teams as a critical quality. Additionally, 80% of participants emphasized the importance of leaders managing stress effectively and modelling resilience to maintain team morale. Communication emerged as a key issue, with 42% of respondents identifying poor communication as the main barrier to effective leadership, followed by micromanagement (22.3%) and favouritism (20.4%).

Emotional Intelligence and Adaptability as Essential Leadership Skills

Emotional intelligence was identified as a crucial factor in leadership effectiveness, with 66.7% of respondents noting its growing significance over the past decade. Of these, 40.6% stated that emotional intelligence is now "much more important." Adaptability also ranked highly, with 82.5% of professionals agreeing that leaders must be adaptable to navigate unexpected challenges in the workplace.

Preferred Leadership Styles and Feedback Practices

The poll also revealed preferences regarding leadership styles. Nearly half (48.6%) of respondents favoured transformational leadership, while 34.6% preferred a more democratic approach. Regular feedback was another key factor, with 69.3% advocating for weekly or bi-weekly check-ins between leaders and their teams to ensure alignment and foster growth.

Ranking of Key Leadership Qualities

When asked to rank leadership qualities, communication skills (39.6%) and vision (35.5%) emerged as the most important traits. In contrast, empathy was less prioritized, with only 5.9% of respondents considering it a key quality for leaders.
