Three Marriott Group hotels have recently been awarded Gold certifications by the globally recognized Green Globe Certification (GGC) program. This recognition was granted in acknowledgement of their dedication to implementing eco-friendly practices across their operations. The Delta Hotel by Marriott Jumeirah Beach, along with the Four Points by Sheraton hotels in Bur Dubai and Sheikh Zayed Road, earned this prestigious Gold status following extensive independent audits conducted by Farnek, a Dubai-based sustainability consultancy and Green Globe’s preferred partner in the Middle East.
“During the audit process and assessment, all three hotels complied with and in some cases even surpassed more than 380 rigorous sustainability indicators, achieving ratings of 93% and above. This underscores their commitment to the environment and of course to the UAE’s net zero 2050 strategy,” said Muna Al Nahdi, Head of Sustainability & Consultancy, Farnek.
Four Points by Sheraton’s First Gold Ratings
Both the Four Points by Sheraton hotels on Sheikh Zayed Road and in Bur Dubai have been Green Globe certified for the past five years. This year, however, they reached a significant milestone by achieving their first-ever Gold ratings. These awards were a result of numerous eco-conscious initiatives, such as food recycling and waste management programs, automated air conditioning cleaning systems, and the installation of solar water heaters. These measures, among others, helped the hotels to significantly reduce their environmental footprint.
Delta Hotel by Marriott Jumeirah Beach's Sustainability Efforts
The Delta Hotel by Marriott Jumeirah Beach also secured a Gold rating through its innovative sustainability programs. One notable initiative was the introduction of reusable laundry bags for staff, made from old guest linens. Additionally, the hotel has implemented motion sensor lighting in all back-of-house areas and upgraded fresh air handling units to improve energy efficiency, leading to a reduction in carbon emissions.
“Achieving Green Globe‘s Gold certification clearly illustrates our determination to reduce our impact on the environment. Each and every member of staff have contributed to this award and it is gratifying to have our efforts formally recognised by an independent auditor. This will undoubtedly assure our guests that we are unequivocally supporting responsible tourism,” said Karolina Paliszewska, Cluster Property General Manager, Delta Hotels by Marriott.
Farnek’s Role in Promoting Green Certification
Farnek, a key player in sustainability consultancy, has been working with Green Globe since 2009. Over the years, the company has certified more than 100 hotels and leisure facilities across 38 cities in the MENA region. Through these certifications, member hotels have collectively saved over 180 million kWh of energy, valued at more than $20 million, and conserved over two million cubic meters of water, saving approximately $5 million.
