Tetra Pak has unveiled its inaugural sustainability report for the Arabian region, showcasing significant progress in environmental stewardship and circularity. The report highlights the company’s pioneering role in developing a robust recycling infrastructure for carton packages, establishing a new standard in the Middle East.
Major Recycling Milestone in UAE
In a groundbreaking agreement with Union Paper Mills (UPM), Tetra Pak has advanced the regional circular economy by introducing the capability to recycle 10,000 tons of carton package waste annually in the United Arab Emirates. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance recycling systems throughout the region, supported by a substantial investment exceeding USD 3.6 million. This investment has been achieved through strategic partnerships with UPM in the UAE, as well as OPI and STP in Saudi Arabia.

Key Circularity Initiatives
The report highlights several flagship initiatives by Tetra Pak aimed at promoting circularity:
> Water Filtering Station at IFFCO Nabatat Plant, Saudi Arabia: In partnership with IFFCO Group, Tetra Pak has established a water filtering station that recovers and reuses 95% of the water utilized in the equipment, leading to a significant reduction in water waste and improved resource management.
> School Milk Programs: Tetra Pak is actively supporting school milk programs in Yemen and Iraq. These programs provide fortified milk to 10,000 children in Yemen and reach 800,000 students across 1,300 schools in Iraq.
Setting New Industry Standards
Tetra Pak’s factory in Jeddah, which exports to 11 countries in the Middle East, has implemented various energy and water conservation measures. The factory has also reduced material waste through innovative technologies, underscoring Tetra Pak’s dedication to decreasing its environmental impact.
