Trinasolar, a global leader in smart photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with AMEA Power to supply 300MWh of its advanced Elementa 2 platform (5MWh). This cutting-edge technology will be deployed for the Abydos Battery Energy Storage Project, located in Aswan, Egypt. This project is significant as it represents the largest solar PV initiative in Africa and the first in Egypt to integrate a utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS).
Expanding the Abydos Solar PV Project
The Abydos Solar PV Project, developed by AMEA Power, marks a significant expansion of the existing 500MW Abydos Solar PV power plant in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate. The addition of a 300MWh BESS highlights Egypt’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and ensuring energy resilience. This project is a key step in supporting Egypt’s energy transformation and reinforcing its role as a leader in renewable energy.
Inauguration Ceremony with High-Level Dignitaries
The inauguration of the 500MW Abydos Solar Power Plant was a momentous occasion, attended by several high-profile dignitaries. Among them were His Excellency Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt, and His Excellency Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy in Egypt. Trinasolar executives were also present, underscoring the importance of this partnership in advancing Egypt’s renewable energy agenda.
As Trinasolar’s first energy storage project in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), Abydos represents a major milestone for the company and the region. Energy China ZTPC’s Role in the Project
Energy China ZTPC, a subsidiary of Energy China Construction Group Co., Ltd., has been an integral part of the project. With over six decades of experience, ZTPC specializes in various energy sectors, including thermal power, nuclear energy, and clean energy projects. The 500MWh Abydos Solar Power Plant is a critical asset to the region and is now commercially operational, contributing to Egypt’s energy grid.
