American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) have officially entered into a strategic partnership through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration introduces an accelerated 4+1 degree program aimed at enhancing academic opportunities for aspiring engineers.
Fast-Track Pathway to Dual Degrees
The innovative program offers students from the AUS College of Engineering (CEN) the chance to complete both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees within five years, significantly reducing the traditional timeline of six or more years. Under this agreement, eligible students will complete their undergraduate studies at AUS before transitioning to the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at UT Dallas. There, they can pursue a Master of Science in either Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, provided they meet all academic requirements.
Scholarship Opportunities for Exceptional Students
Students accepted into the UT Dallas graduate programs under this initiative can apply for scholarships, easing financial burdens as they advance their education. These scholarships support academic pursuits and empower students to focus on their professional growth and future careers.
“We are committed to breaking barriers and offering our students transformative opportunities. This partnership with UT Dallas shows our dedication to providing pathways that enhance both academic growth and global competitiveness, ensuring our students are well-prepared for leadership in the evolving world of engineering and technology,” said Dr. Moahmed El-Tarhuni, Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost.
Emphasis on Research and Global Exposure
Beyond academics, the agreement highlights collaborative research and development training, along with opportunities for student exchange and study abroad programs. This aligns seamlessly with AUS’ mission to deliver globally recognized education and equip students with the skills to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
Strengthening Global Academic Partnerships
UT Dallas, ranked among the top 55 higher education institutions in the United States and third in Texas by the US News Best Colleges Ranking 2025, brings significant prestige to this partnership.
“Our collaboration with UT Dallas offers students the opportunity to gain international academic experience, save time and tuition costs, and enhance their career prospects by fast-tracking their graduate education. We also look forward to expanding our collaboration with UT Dallas in other areas of engineering in the future,” said Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of College of Engineering at AUS.
With this collaboration, AUS CEN now boasts three 4+1 program agreements with renowned institutions, further demonstrating its commitment to preparing students for leadership roles in the dynamic fields of engineering and technology.
