Abu Dhabi's Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), the driving force behind shaping an advanced R&D landscape in the UAE capital and steering the nation's strategic research priorities, has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative poised to revolutionize the country's research sector – the UAE Research Map. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Emirates Research and Development Council (ERDC), this centralized resource portal aims to energize the research community and streamline operations for maximum efficiency. The UAE Research Map serves as a dynamic platform for anyone engaged in or curious about the R&D environment in the country. It harmonizes research endeavours across government entities, universities, research-focused institutions, and industry players, consolidating diverse research needs into a single accessible hub. Offering a comprehensive overview of R&D activities, it functions not only as an information repository but also as a forum for highlighting significant competitions, job openings, and events within the research sphere.
This centralized portal promises to add significant value to the research landscape, positioning research as a cornerstone of the economy. By spotlighting funding opportunities, facilitating access to training and mentorship programs, fostering expert networking, and nurturing Emirati talent, it aims to bolster research initiatives across the board. Moreover, it serves as a knowledge repository, featuring UAE publications, researchers, R&D centres, and comprehensive guides and policies. A key feature of the portal is its focus on emerging IP opportunities and the evolving R&D ecosystem within the UAE, providing users with valuable insights into technological advancements.
Underscoring the importance of this launch, H.E. Shahab Issa Abu Shahab, Director General, ATRC, said: “The UAE Research Map provides a unique platform for collaboration in the area of R&D, and aims to leverage all available resources for various research entities and individuals. The UAE has expedited the establishment and expansion of its R&D ecosystem within a very tight timeframe, to keep pace with the possibilities presented by technological advancements. This centralized portal brings together crucial building blocks to deepen our research mindset and enhance the efficiency of our ecosystem. It is set to become a critical tool in uniting the efforts of key researchers and their ideas.”
Moving forward, the UAE Research Map will undergo further enhancements to enrich user experience. Planned upgrades include a publications section, an expert finder with advanced filtering capabilities, and a fortified commercialization segment aimed at facilitating the transition of research findings from the laboratory to the marketplace. With the UAE Research Map at the helm, the nation is poised to propel its research sector to new heights, fostering innovation, collaboration, and impactful contributions to the global scientific community.
