This ambitious project aims to transform the Maldives into a financial hub attracting international investment and fostering economic diversification.

The Government of Maldives, in partnership with MBS Global Investments, is set to establish the Maldives International Financial Centre (MIFC)—a fully sustainable financial free zone in Malé. With an investment of US$8.8 billion, MIFC aims to attract global financial institutions, cutting-edge fintech companies, and a growing community of digital nomads.

Diversifying the Economy: Beyond Tourism

Positioned to transform Malé into a premier financial and business hub in the Indian Ocean, MIFC represents a strategic pivot for the Maldives. The project will enable the nation to diversify its economy beyond tourism by creating a next-generation urban district tailored to the future of global finance.

Borderless Opportunity: Tax-Free, Residency-Free Benefits

MIFC will offer a compelling suite of incentives: zero corporate tax, no inheritance tax, full ownership rights under Maldivian law, and robust privacy protections. With no residency requirements, the zone is poised to become a magnet for entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and high-net-worth individuals seeking financial freedom and flexibility.

Cutting-Edge Banking and Financial Infrastructure

Residents and businesses in MIFC will enjoy access to multi-currency banking and offshore private banking services. Future-oriented regulations will support digital assets and green finance, positioning MIFC as a forward-thinking destination for sustainable wealth management and long-term investment.

Global Reach and Economic Impact

Scheduled for completion by 2030, MIFC is designed to be globally accessible. Within four years of launch, it is expected to significantly boost the Maldives' GDP, with annual revenues projected to exceed US$1 billion by the fifth year.

Landmark Convention Centre: A Global Stage in Malé

At the heart of the development will be a world-class conference centre with a 3,500-seat capacity. This multifunctional venue will host global summits, cultural showcases, and tech-driven hackathons, establishing Malé as a year-round gathering point for international leaders and innovators.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said, “With the MIFC, we are shaping the Maldives of tomorrow, a beacon of innovation and national pride that will thrive in harmony with nature. The financial centre will be a symbol of economic resilience and will set a new global benchmark that will massively benefit the people of the Maldives for generations to come.”

Minister of Finance for the Maldives said, “This is a momentous project. It offers a great opportunity to diversify our economy beyond tourism in line with our ambitions and will attract the best businesses and visionary entrepreneurs in the world.”

Nadeem Hussain, CEO of MBS Global Investments, said, “The financial centre will set a new global benchmark, advancing financial innovation by at least two decades. It is the next evolution of what has been happening in other financial centres around the globe.”

Iconic Architecture and World-Class Amenities

The MIFC master plan features three signature towers for global headquarters and regional offices, alongside luxury seafront residences, five-star hotels, and a vibrant retail experience. Key cultural and educational institutions—including an Oceanographic Museum, an international school, and a mosque—will anchor the district.

Climate-Resilient, Sustainable Design

MIFC’s infrastructure will be built for climate resilience, powered entirely by renewable energy. The upper levels of the development will be car-free, with transportation and logistics systems placed underground to create a walkable, open-air urban environment.

A New Lifestyle Destination Rooted in Wellness

More than just a business hub, MIFC will promote a holistic lifestyle. With state-of-the-art sports and wellness centres, longevity clinics, and extensive green spaces featuring shaded cycling and running tracks, the development is envisioned as one of the most desirable places in the world to live and work.

Inspired by Nature: A Visionary Urban Masterplan

Designed by renowned architect Gianni Ranaulo, the MIFC master plan draws inspiration from the Maldives' rich marine biodiversity. Every structure is crafted with sustainability in mind, blending seamlessly with the local environment. Spanning 780,000 square meters, the development will accommodate over 6,500 residents and is expected to attract more than 35,000 visitors daily.
