Maktoum Bin Mohammed Interacts With Leaders In Finance & International Policy In Dubai Fintech Summit

Gatherings investigate international collaboration and knowledge sharing in the areas of urban financial infrastructure, capital markets, FinTech, and new business development prospects created by Dubai.

The second Dubai FinTech Summit (DFS) kicked off today with His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE, and President of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), engaging with prominent global policymakers and financial industry leaders. Among the influential figures His Highness interacted with were Adena T Friedman, Chair and CEO of Nasdaq; Oh Se-Hoon, Mayor of Seoul, South Korea; Nic Dreckman, Group CEO of Julius Baer; and Nikolay Storonsky, Founder and CEO of Revolut.

Organized by DIFC, the leading global financial centre in the MEASA region, the two-day Dubai FinTech Summit attracted over 8,000 decision-makers, 300 thought leaders, and 200 exhibitors. The summit served as a platform to discuss the latest innovations, challenges, and cutting-edge technologies in the financial sector.

His Highness's discussions centred on various areas, including the exchange of expertise in FinTech innovation, urban infrastructure development, and emerging opportunities in capital markets, wealth management, and FinTech resulting from Dubai's new policies and initiatives. In his meeting with Adena T Friedman, His Highness explored strengthening ties between Dubai's financial ecosystem and Nasdaq, aiming to enhance Dubai's stock markets to AED3 trillion and deepen its capital market ecosystem. Collaboration with global players like Nasdaq is seen as crucial to Dubai’s efforts in advancing investment growth and technology innovation in financial services.

Mayor Oh Se-hoon and His Highness discussed collaboration between Dubai and Seoul, particularly in urban infrastructure development and innovation. Both expressed interest in sharing experiences in the FinTech sector to support sustainable economic development.

Nic Dreckmann of Julius Baer and Nikolay Storonsky of Revolut commended Dubai's financial growth and expressed interest in expanding their presence in the region, leveraging Dubai's advanced infrastructure and investor-friendly policies. Intending to establish Dubai as one of the world’s top four global financial hubs by 2033, the Dubai FinTech Summit aims to encourage cross-border collaboration and innovation, essential for transforming the global FinTech sector. The meetings were attended by Essa Kazim, Governor of DIFC; Arif Amiri, CEO of DIFC Authority; and Mohammad Alblooshi, CEO of DIFC Innovation Hub.
